Simple, wholesome treats we make in our own kitchen. Every one of these has been taste-tested by a very serious panel of dachshunds.
These recipes are shared for fun, not as veterinary advice. Every dog is different — check with your vet before introducing new foods, especially if your dog has allergies or health conditions. Treats should stay under 10% of your dog’s daily calories.
Some everyday human foods are genuinely dangerous for dogs. Keep these well out of reach.
Xylitol
Sugar-free gum, peanut butter and baked goods. Causes a sudden, dangerous drop in blood sugar.
Grapes & raisins
Can cause sudden kidney failure, even in very small amounts.
Onion & garlic
Damages red blood cells. Includes powdered forms in seasoning.
Chocolate
Theobromine is toxic to dogs. Darker chocolate is worse.
Macadamia nuts
Cause weakness, tremors and vomiting.
Cooked bones
Splinter easily and can pierce the digestive tract.
